Dear colleagues at
IGME.
A national geological
survey is an important research and advisory institution to all countries’
government and public. Only very poor countries think they can live without a
geological survey or privatize the entire function. Luckily they are few and the
future will show that they have done wrong.
Who else shall
qualified take care of the underground ressources like
Mineral resources, Water resources, Energy resources (oil, gas or geothermal
energy), Natural hazards related to geology and Geological herritage? Ask
yourself who else can advise your government or regional authorities in a
qualified manner in cases where underground resources are involved or threathened. The
later years, geology has all over Europe proved to be increasingly important to
the nations economy and the peoples health.
I hope you will succede in your
efforts to maintain IGME as an important national research and advisory
institution with important cooperation within the European society.
