“IGME is a well-known public organization that has focused on problems relating to general geology, mapping, economic geology, engineering geology, geochemistry, geophysics, aspects related with raw materials and geological resources. It is a reference of several iconic studies on economic geology and raw materials and has been a supporting pillar of EU policy making.
State geological surveys are vitally important to the economy of a nation. The information they collect and disseminate is inevitably used by other government agencies, by consultants, by industry, by developers, and by the public as critical input in local and regional economic development plans.
The information generated by the Geological surveys is essential for the responsible  and sustainable development of a country’s mineral, energy, and water resources, safe development  and modernization of infrastructure, protecting the public from losses due to geologic and natural hazards or anthropogenic hazards, and the wise use of natural resources for tourism and recreation. All of these are significant to the economy by providing jobs and generating revenue, preventing or minimizing loss due to hazards and natural disasters, and by increasing our understanding of the earth’s resources and the need for sustainable use.
It is a great pity that the short sightedness of governing bodies fails to see that this type of public organization is essential and there to benefit society as a whole.”
With best wishes,
